Silver carbonate, chemical formula Ag₂CO₃. Molecular weight 275.75. A pale yellow powder. Sensitive to light; gradually turns black when exposed to light or when dried. Specific gravity 6.077. Melting point 218°C (decomposes); when heated to 220°C, it completely decomposes into silver oxide and carbon dioxide. Slightly soluble in water; soluble in ammonia water, concentrated alkali metal carbonate solutions, sodium thiosulfate solutions, potassium cyanide solutions, nitric acid, and sulfuric acid. Insoluble in ethanol. It is obtained by gradually adding a sodium carbonate solution to a silver nitrate solution, allowing a precipitate to form, and then washing and drying it. It is used as an analytical reagent and as a raw material for preparing electroplating solutions.
