Applications
Chlorhexidine is a surfactant-based antimicrobial agent with strong broad-spectrum antibacterial and bactericidal properties; it is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. As a result, it is widely used in numerous fields, such as healthcare, disinfection, and personal care products, where it is highly valued for its highly effective antimicrobial properties.
Chlorhexidine is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that binds to salivary glycoproteins, reducing the amount of protein adhering to tooth surfaces and thereby interfering with plaque formation. In addition, chlorhexidine can bind to bacterial extracellular polysaccharides, making it more difficult for bacteria to adhere to tooth surfaces, thereby helping to prevent and reduce periodontal disease and dental caries. The combined use of chlorhexidine and fluoride can produce a synergistic effect.
