Silver sulfate is a sulfate salt with the chemical formula Ag₂SO₄. It is soluble in nitric acid, ammonia water, and concentrated sulfuric acid; it is insoluble in ethanol; and it is slightly soluble in water, with solubility increasing as the pH of the solution decreases. When the hydrogen ion concentration is sufficiently high, significant dissolution can occur. It is used as an analytical reagent and as a catalyst in the determination of chemical oxygen demand (COD) in water.
